Woe To The Shepherds…

In Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 59:9–11, the people of Yisra’ĕl are described as walking in deep spiritual darkness. Though they look for light, they cannot find it. They grope like the blind, stumbling even at midday, and exist “like the dead among the living”—not literally spirits, but people who have lost vitality, clarity, and true life. Their condition is heavy and joyless; they groan like bears and mourn like doves, longing for justice and deliverance that never seems to come.

This condition does not exist in isolation. In Yeḥezqĕl (Ezekiel) 34:2–5, YaHuWaH rebukes the shepherds—the leaders—because they have fed themselves instead of the flock. They live in comfort, taking the fat and the wool, while neglecting the weak, the sick, the broken, and the scattered. The people are left vulnerable, directionless, and exposed because those entrusted to care for them have ruled with harshness instead of compassion.

YaHuWaH then declares in Yeḥezqĕl (Ezekiel) 34:8–17 that He is against these shepherds. He will remove them and take responsibility for His flock Himself. He will seek the lost, gather the scattered, heal the broken, and feed them in good pasture. At the same time, He will judge between sheep and sheep—bringing justice not only to corrupt leaders but also within the flock itself.

Together, these passages reveal a powerful contrast:
The people are left living like shadows—without light, peace, or direction—while those meant to shepherd them live in abundance and self-indulgence. Yet YaHuWaH does not ignore this injustice. He sees, He is displeased, and He steps in as the true Shepherd—restoring, gathering, and judging with righteousness.
