Isaiah 59 Synopsis

Verses 1–2 — Separation is not due to weakness in YaHuWaH
YaHuWaH’s arm is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. The problem is not with Him—but with the people. Their crookedness and sin have created a separation between them and their Elohim, causing Him to hide His face from them.
Verses 3–8 — A people corrupted in action and truth
Their hands are defiled with blood and their lips speak falsehood. Justice is absent; truth stumbles. They conceive evil, bring forth wickedness, and rush to shed innocent blood. Their paths are twisted, and they do not know shalom.
Verses 9–11 — The fruit of sin: confusion and spiritual blindness
Because of this, right-ruling (justice) is far off. They grope like the blind, stumbling even at midday. They long for light, but walk in darkness—experiencing distress, mourning, and unrest.
Verses 12–15a — Confession of collective sin
The people acknowledge their many transgressions before YaHuWaH. They admit rebellion, denial of Him, oppression, and turning away from truth. Truth has fallen in the street, and straight dealing cannot enter.
Verses 15b–16 — YaHuWaH sees and is displeased
YaHuWaH sees that there is no justice and no intercessor. This grieves Him. So His own arm brings deliverance—He Himself steps in to act.
Verses 17–18 — YaHuWaH as Divine Warrior
He puts on righteousness like armor and a helmet of deliverance. He clothes Himself with garments of vengeance and zeal. He will repay according to deeds—wrath to His adversaries and recompense to His enemies, even to the coastlands.
Verses 19 — The fear and esteem of YaHuWaH spreads
From west to east, people will fear the Name of YaHuWaH. When the enemy comes in like a flood, His Spirit raises a standard against it.
Verses 20–21 — The Redeemer and covenant promise
A Redeemer comes to Tsiyon—to those who turn from transgression in Yaʿaqob. YaHuWaH establishes His covenant: His Spirit and His Words will not depart from His people or their descendants from this time onward and forever.
